Well, not quite.
That Design Thing is a new design festival in Shrewsbury.
It’s about design, obviously. But it’s also about the things around design — the ideas, people, places and conversations that make a creative scene worth having.
Shrewsbury already has plenty going on. What it doesn’t necessarily have is a moment when all of that becomes visible.
That’s what we’re interested in.
Why Shrewsbury?
Because interesting things don’t only happen in the places that already have a reputation for them.
It’s easy to look elsewhere for the good stuff.
We’d rather look here.
That Design Thing isn’t about pretending Shrewsbury is somewhere else. It’s about looking properly at what’s here, putting it on show, and bringing more people into the mix — from here, from elsewhere, from wherever. Good stuff is everywhere. We want some more of it here.
Who’s it for?
If you’re interested in how things are made, thought about, communicated or changed, there’s probably something here for you.
You just need to be curious.
And then there’s everything else.
We’re deliberately leaving some space.
For ideas we haven’t had yet.
For someone to suggest something we’ve never thought of.
For the festival to grow beyond the people who started it.
Because if we’re going to call it That Design Thing, we should probably leave room for a few things.
